Many forms of media such as
tapes, floppy disks, Syquest and JAZ cartridges while relatively cheap or fast for storage and retrieval, are fragile. This can put your important files at risk. Tapes and floppy disks are made of essentially the same kind of materials and have a tendency to fail after a number of years, sometimes as little as 2 years.
CDs and DVDs on the other hand, have greater capacity and, with proper care last many times longer.
Illustrated to the right are advantages in storage. The DVD at the bottom is roughly equal in capacity to each of the different media pictured.
Thousands of tracks from vinyl records can be stored on a hard hard disk, in iTunes or on an iPod. Your music can also be transcribed to CDs or DVDs. You can carry days worth of listening on an iPod or on your computer.
Do you have a few video tapes you would like to have on DVD? I can put them there for you.
